Walk the Donald Mural Trail

A list of Murals painted by local, regional and national artist has been growing steadily in the Donald area over a period of 5 years. Donald 2000 invite you to walk the Mural Trail.

1.Donald Swimming Pool Mural - Woods street

This bright sea and water sports scene depicts an attractive bright entrance to the Donald Swimming Pool. This mural was created in 2001 by the Donald High School Year 9 students and assistance from Donald 2000.

2.Penfold Place South Wall - Woods Street

A Carol Webb painted Mural depicting early days of typical homestead in the district north. Some of the tools and cooking utensils used by the earlier settlers. The rear of Penfold Place is a series of cartoon characters painted by Kerry Duncan.

3.Old St Georges Hall - Woods Street

A Mural depicting the former use of St Georges Hall as a movie theatre. Completed by the students of the Donald High School under the direction of Dulcie Loats and Carol Webb in September 2001.

4.Old National Bank Building - Woods Street

The current owner of the Old National Bank Mr Leo Gillahan was pleased to allow his wall to be painted in the relief form of ex Royal George Hotel. The Royal George Hotel was a double story mud brick building built in the late 19th Century and demolished in the 1960's which stood on the opposite corner. This realistic Mural was started by Carol Webb and never completed. The Mural depicts life like the original Royal George Hotel. Some ex patrons returning to the district have actually crossed the road to buy and visit the bar only to be bitterly disappointed.

5.Our Ceramic Landscape - Woods Street

Created by Donald High School Art students in 2001 with Kerry Punton a visiting Ceramic Artist. This ceramic landscape is dedicated to the memory of Heather Shilton an inspiring teacher at the Donald High School. Sponsored by Jillian Hancock PhC. A list of students and staff who developed the ceramic landscape is featured on the wall.

6.Apex Park BBQ - Woods Street

A recent addition to the Donald Murals featuring naïve birds of the region by local artist Kerry Duncan. The Birds in the Mural include Kookaburra, Galah, Spoonbill Rosella, Nankeen Night Heron, Blackwinged Spilt and White Faced Heron. See it you can spot the lizard.

7.Donald Primary School - Hammill Street

The butterfly wall mural on the pump shed was designed and painted by the students of Donald High School under the direction of Jan Bird. The second mural on the school wall in Walker Street is a country scene with some surprises in store. To be painted by Jan Bird and school Parents and teachers. Frogs have now been added to the colourful murals in the grounds of the Primary School.

8.Donald Showgrounds - Hammill Street

A brightly colored mural by the Donald High School students depicting all the colors and activities seen at the Donald Agricultural Show. This mural fittingly is at the entrance to the P & A Society Produce, Arts and Craft Pavillion. Completed in 2004.
